RCBW Honours Dr.Bharat Mahale

Rotary Club of Bombay West honoured Dr.Bharat Mahale with Rotary Vocational Excellence Award for his exemplary work on Maternal Mortality Reduction Project at Village Jawahar, Dist.Palghar in State of Maharashtra.

Dr.Mahale, an Obstetrician by occupation, joined this noble profession with an aim to serve the underprivileged.  He consciously chose to work in adverse conditions rather than enjoy what the plush city life had to offer.  His work in the tribal belt of Jawhar, is a testimony of his hard work and dedication.  After completing his MBBS from KEM College, Bombay, he completed his MD in Obs & Gynaec from the Jerbai Wadia Hospital.  In 2004, he decided to join the government services as Medical officer in the  Patangshah Cottage hospital, Jawhar.

In Jawhar, he had to face many challenges, like lack of proper infrastructure, patient illiteracy, and low health awareness. But the most critical challenge was to stop 'home deliveries’.  With the help of a team of hospital staff he managed to gather resources, train them competently and is now progressing to build the Jawhar First referral unit.   .
He is also  operating laparoscopic surgeries for this belt, and has completed thousands of laparoscopic sterilization surgeries over the last 5 years...National Rural Health Mission and Organization of Pharmaceutical Producers of India have helped in including many services for patients, thus helping him provide comprehensive care to his patients.

Work is his priority, passion and commitment.  Fighting the challenge of home deliveries, he emphasised on better Antenatal care during pregnancy, reduction of anemia, early diagnosis of risk factors in antenatal care.  He and his team have indeed restored the patients’ faith in the government healthcare system.
