Life Time Achievement Award to Padma Shri Ms.Darshana Jhaveri

Rotary Club of Bombay West celebrated its 62nd Charter Night by conferring a Life-time Achievement Award to Padma Shri Ms.Darshana Jhaveri, the 75 year old renowned classical Manipuri dancer, research scholar and teacher.  

The youngest of the four Jhaveri sisters, Ms.Darshana is a leading Indian exponent of Manipuri dance, an Indian classical dance form. She is a disciple of Guru Bipin Singh, and started performing on stage in 1958 along with her sisters. She is one of the founders of the Manipuri Nartanalaya in 1972, which popularized Manipuri dance in India, and is currently headed by her, with centres at Mumbai, Kolkata and Imphal.  Her response to the award was through her enthralling performance at the event held at 'The Club', Andheri, Mumbai on May 4, 2016 which was applauded by the members and guests.


Earlier, Ms.Madhavi Gangal, a student of Kanak Rele of Nalanda Academy and a Dance Instructor at Rotary KDN Shruti School for the Hearing Impaired, Juhu Mumbai performed fabulous classical bharatnatyam dances.

Rtn.Rajul Doshi, Past President Rtn.Arvind Shah, Rtn.Naresh Merchant, Rtn.Gaurang Mehta and Rtn.Madhu Narang ably supported President Shirish Rege ion organizing the event which had sponsorship support from HSBC Bank, Godrej Properties, Rtn.Prashant Patel, Rtn.Arjun Hardasani and Rtn.Sandeep Parikh.
